"The Night Sky" Singapore Planisphere (Cardboard Edition)

Description

McGill is pleased to bring to Singaporeans one of the best planispheres in the world, customised to our Equatorial position!

A planisphere is a rotating star-finder wheel (normally made of cardboard paper or plastic) which allows a person to recognise the night sky above him at any time of the night, any day of the year. This version shows the locations of constellations, brighter stars and planets above Singapore. It is an indispensable and affordable tool for anyone who wants to find out what is the name of that bright star over his head with just his naked eyes. Of course you'll see more stars and dimmer objects if you have a 7x50 or 10x50 binocular which is available at a very reasonable price from McGill!

"The Night Sky" is an easy way for both kids and adults to start the interesting hobby of stargazing, which can easily last a lifetime! In addition, when used together with its companion book "Stargazing with Binoculars in Singapore Night Sky" and equipping yourself with an affordable 7x50 or 10x50 binocular, you can easily start the interesting hobby of stargazing! Who says you need to buy an expensive telescope to enjoy stargazing?

"The Night Sky" is not just another planisphere. I think "The Night Sky" is the finest and easiest to use star finding aid in existence. (Jack Horkheimer: Star Gazer)

This planisphere has been tested extensively by McGill under a dark sky spot in Mersing, in the state of Johor, Malaysia. It was discovered that the locations of the various stars shown were the most accurate and least distorted compared to other commercially available planispheres.

One disturbing disadvantage of most planispheres is that the views of the East and West sides are too distorted and out of orientation as compared to a real night sky. However The Night Sky planisphere allows you to flip to the other side which shows a better and more accurate view.

The stars shown on this planisphere are as dim as magnitude +6, which is very critical if you are observing in a dark night sky location as in Mersing, where the Milky Way can be seen stretching across the horizon with your naked eyes, with stars sprinkled all over the sky! Most other planispheres disclose stars of up to magnitude +5 only or even lesser. Imagine the difficulty when a person with no stargazing knowledge has to see so many stars with just his naked eyes and doesn't know which is which!

In terms of user-friendliness, the cardboard quality is surprisingly rugged and remains in good condition even after a night of dew and air moisture. At this very reasonable price, regular use of this item should still last a long time if maintained properly.

For more information about why "The Night Sky" is such an excellent tool in stargazing, please refer to the parent website by clicking the link at the bottom.

Please note the picture shown at top right hand corner is NOT cardboard edition.
